PROCEDURES
For Brazing:
Even though 202 XL bonds well through rust, oil, dirt, etc., best results will be obtained by cleaning the weld area. Parts to be joined should have a joint clearance of 0.003 inch. Using a neutral flame, heat the base metal to a dull red. Melt off a small amount of rod and flux, allowing thin deposits to flow through the joint. Add additional filler metal as needed. Allow the completed joint to cool at room temperature.
For Buildup and Overlaying:
202 XL can be applied on any moderately clean surface. Whenever possible, clean the weld area by removing surface dirt and fatigued metal. Preheat only the starting weld area to a dull red. Apply filler metal by placing the tip of the rod and the tip of the flame cone (neutral flame) in contact with the base metal. Melt the metal in tinning fashion. Keep the torch angle at 70° to the base metal. To apply a pass-on-pass buildup, return to the start of the first bead. With the torch angle lowered to 20°, apply successive layers of filler metal until the desired height is obtained.
